A bullet brings overall rank five

The 470e Women Steffi Rothweiler and Vivien Kussatz (Munich/Berlin) from the pinta racing team could cut the Gordian knot today as they crowned the fourth day of racing in the Netherlands with a bullet. Guilia Conti and Giovanna Micol from Italy hold the lead, followed sharply by the Brazilian team Oliveira/Swan.

The 470 team Rothweiler/Kussatz found the clue to sail the course in Medemblik, Netherlands and rank fifth before the last medal race

“That was a great finish, before the medal race starts tomorrow”, cheers 470-helmswoman Steffi Rothweiler about the victory in the day’s last race. “We finally understood the way to sail the course. We had to go very far onto the right side of the course but feared to do so consequently yesterday.

With results seven, eight and one the German team could work their way back onto overall rank five. “Tomorrow we will give everything, but the four crews in front are very far away”, says crew Vivien Kussatz, sailing for the Spandau Yacht-Club in Berlin. Even if it seems impossible to win the series, the racing will be stated as a very good training for the Olympic Games, as they have been sailing three races each day in different conditions.

But before the medal race starts tomorrow, Steffi Rothweiler has to take a rest. The sailor, starting for the Wuerttembergische Yacht-Club in Friedrichshafen collided with the boom and suffered from a big bump and severe headache.
And the weather forecast previews a lot of wind. “That might mean our goal will be to sail constant and get to the finish in one piece without capsizing”, says Rothweiler, who is more of a light wind specialist.
