MEDEMBLIK. It wasn’t the best day for Steffi Rothweiler and Vivien Kussatz (Munich/Berlin) from the pinta racing team on Friday (23 May) in the international Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik/Netherlands. After a hard time, they fell back on rank eight. The Italians Guilia Conti and Giovanna Micol could defend the lead.

„It was all about going against the shifts onto the left side“, Steffi Rothweiler explained the recipe for success on the third day of racing, which had not been followed by the pinta racing team.
But the British team Christina Bessadone and Saskia Clark found the clue and could nearly end the day with three bullets – would not the Netherlands crew Marcelien de Koning and Lobke Berkhout have beaten them in the last race.
A little hope was given to the German duo, which is using the races on the Ijsselmeer for their preparations for Olympia. They ended the seventh race on seventh place after starting the day with a 13th rank. But the last run of the day was real bad again. “It was like in the beginning of the year in Melbourne at the Worlds”, the helmswoman remembered, “the tactics had no logical reason, but the once who sailed to extreme sides, have won a lot”. So it wasn’t the boat speed that gave them bad results, and Rothweiler and Kussatz took comfort in that knowledge. They are looking forward to the last three races on day four (Saturday 24 May), before the Medal Race on Sunday is sailed among the top ten teams.
